Need somewhere cheap to stay in New York (or area) for 3-4 months. Suggestions?
I plan on doing an internship in New York City-area for 3-4 starting at the end of May and will be there, more than likely, until the end of August. I need somewhere to stay, but can only go $650/month max. Is this even possible? What are some areas relatively close? Other suggestions? I already looked into hostels and it's just not cost-efficient for me. I tried looking on Craigslist for temporary housing/sublets but it's too early to get a good idea.

- You should definitely be able to find "someplace" to stay for $650. per month (granted it won't be the Ritz Hotel). Look in the Village Voice--look in areas like the East Village (Manhattan) for roommates or summer sublets. (A little known fact is that NYC tends to clear out in the summer--most people are away for vacations and/or students leave, so there are more summer sublets available--but start looking for them now!) I'm suggesting the East Village because it is safe, convenient & close to all subway & bus lines. It is still relatively inexpensive--as far as NYC goes + so much happens there. It is close to NYU, so there are tons of grad students & others doing internships of all kinds. Hope you enjoy your time in NYC. It's a great place to be!
