  1. It sounds like the key to your presentation of yourself will be to focus on your interest in the job and how it will tie into your future goals (ie. after highschool are you planning to take any admin courses, etc). You can also focus on things you have done to prove your responsibility level. (ie. clubs at school, babysitting references, music lessons or other lessons outside school). By showing you are enthusiastic and focused they may give you a shot at the job. Networking through friends and family is also an excellent way to get a chance at this since they will "put in a good word" for you. Lastly, talk to your guidance cousellor at the school. They will have excellent resources on resume writing, cover letters etc geared specifically to your situation. Good luck
  2. Have you dropped out of high school? If yes, please consider a GED. If you do not want to return, please consider a vocational school. If that is not going work then I will tell your job options will be more limited than if you had a GED or a certification. That said, I would try to gain employment through a temp agency. They will send you to various assignements. Sometimes you will find a place that you really like and they like you and they will convert you to permanent. Another reason to consider a temporary agency is that you may have more flexibility. For example, after an assignment is completed, you may want to wait a week before your next assignment. Good Luck
  3. Seeing as you're in NYC, you'd best try working as a office helper there at the high school to gain real experience in the office situation. Try to take a PBX class so they'll teach you how to answer the phone in a professional manner. When you go applying for receptionist positions, make sure you're dress in a two or three piece suit in navy or dark gray. A skirt is preferred over slacks with hem line at the middle of your knees or just at the top of your knees. You want to look ladylike and not like you're looking for your next date. Easy on the make up, too, please. Good Luck and Big Hug, menome b
