I want to move to a big city in the northeast or midwest. Advice?

I come from a boring small town in Delaware. I visited Minneapolis/St. Paul for a few days and I loved it! There was so much to do and see. We walked around both downtowns. Everywhere we went we felt safe. The public transportation was great to ride on. I would love to live there, but the only problem is that it gets so incredibly cold in the winter! So I want to leave my job in Delaware and move to a city like the Twin Cities. I have narrowed my search to Minnesota, Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Columbus and Indianapolis. Any advice on where would be a good place for me to live? I have $3K saved up. I will try to line up a job on craigslist, but I may just up and move without a job lined up. How would you guys go about making a move like this?

  1. You are not going to line up a decent job on Craigslist. Most of what they are offer is that work from home junk. Try www.indeed.com You need more than 3K because places want 1st, Last and current for rent. That could take $2000 of your money right there. Save double what you have and then consider it without a job. Otherwise while you are saving look for work :) The up and coming suburb is Blaine in the north Metro. It is exploding!
  2. I think the Twin Cities or Chicago are the best cities and best job markets in the midwest. If you are willing to go west, Seattle is a great place.
