how do you become a proffessional deejay?
Public Comments
- By becoming one.
- Almost anyone can be a DJ, but to become a professional one requires practice. It also depends on what kind of DJ you want to be. To be a entertainment DJ (one who plays music at parties and other venues for money), I suggest immersing yourself into the current music scene and creating playlists of popular songs (not just what you like, but a generalized mix of dance or listening music) and assembling them together for quick access and play. Equipment is also a necessity. Lights, speakers, cables, all these are needed if you are in essense, "selling a party." As for the other kind of DJ (a performing DJ who works in real time with mixing beats and digital/vinyl effects and samples), practice, practice, and more practice. No one ever became good at mixing by accidently skipping their record player or Walkman. Also, listen to different music and samples, and see what really captures your attention. Use it in your mixing. Come up with your favorite samples, learn them inside and out, and make them a staple of your style. Good luck.
