Who/Where to give my dog to.?
I'm never home to take care of my lab because of work and school. I thought I could take care of her of but I feel horrible when she wants to play and I'm way too exhausted. I was going to put her on craigslist but I'm afraid of giving her to the wrong person or an animal abuser. I don't want to give her back to the shelter. She's a good dog but just needs someone that will be with her, since she is a lab. What can I do. Where can I post her online or who could I give her away to. I live in Sacramento CA if that helps.

- You might look for a lab rescue in your area.
- Give her to a Lab Rescue (link below)
- Either give her to someone that you know and can keep in contact with or put her online/local paper and vet the homes and make sure they have another dog so there not a first time dog owner and also so you can see how their other dog apperears health/behaviour wise!
- Ask people you know, work with or go to school with and see if anyone wants a lab. If that doesn't work go to a lab rescue organization. They will make sure she gets a good home.
- interview the people who answer your ad, ask them their intentions for the dog, ask were they live, ask if you let them have her if you can do a home check to make sure she,s happy better yet draw up a contract stating that you will let them have her but that you have the right to see their home first to see if its suitable for a dog of her size and that you have the right to come back and see if shes happy and if shes not that you can take her back but that if she is you,ll sign her over to them with no more visits
- Advertise her adoption opportunity at local pet shops and vets offices.
- Check your adoption contract. Most shelters require that you return the dog to them if you can not keep it. You may be legally obligated to return the dog. If the contract does not have such a clause, try Labrador Retriever rescue. You should be able to find one searching online, or go to www.akc.org to locate the national Lab club; they should have rescue contacts.
- Contact some local Lab rescues, even if they can't take her they may be able to help by listing her on their website, or at least they should be able to give you good advice on placing her safely.
- I'm very glad you are doing the right thing.Sometimes you don't know how things will work out until you are living it.I'm assuming you don't know anyone personally who would be good with your dog,as this would be ideal. You need to contact a breed rescue, there most likely is one near your area, since you have a common breed. Good luck!
- aww...poor girl. I wish I could take her, my Sheltie would love to have a playmate. I would do what some of the other posters have suggested. Check with some of the Lab rescuers...good luck and I hope you find her a wonderful loving home.
- I would stick too breed rescues. However do you have a doggy daycare in your area. These are excellent places to give you dog some exercise, and socialization skills. Then you would be able to keep your loving pet, and not feel guilty on your tried days, as she has had a great day at daycare.
- find a no kill shelter. or something like "lost dogs" if you have them near you. they will go an interview new owners, check the house/yard all that kind of stuff. some places will even go back and check on the dog a year or so later to make sure things are going well.
- Give her to a lab breed rescue in your area.
