Moving to Austin... good furniture stores?
Im moving 900 miles to Austin, TX. It's too much of a hassle to rent a UHaul and all of that ... so I'm just going to buy new furniture when I get there. I need everything ... kitchen table, couch, chair, bed ... everything. I'm basically only taking my clothes with me. Where is the best (cheapest) place to buy furniture?? I want NEW stuff (so no ebay or craigslist). Are there any places in Austin with good deals, any places that would deliver the big stuff?

- There's an Ikea in Round Rock. If you're looking for discount furniture stores, there's a lot around the N. Burnet/N. Lamar area (up around where they hit 183).
- Ikea is perfect for all your basics and they do deliver. It is just North of Austin off of I-35 at Chandler(about a 20 minute drive). I just moved from Austin to California and Ikea made my life much easier! Also, if you would like more time to shop around for big stuff....cause Austin has great "small" furniture stores and antique stores...you could always rent furniture temporarily while you look for stuff you like. This way you don't end up buying something you regret because you were in a hurry. Check out Cort Furniture Rental in North Austin. They actually have some pretty decent stuff. There are some great furniture stores on Lamar(near 5th street) and on Burnett. Also, for nice and affordable stuff check out the Furniture Consignment place on 5th street (just west of Lamar). I have found some great leather couches there before. Good luck and enjoy Austin! It is a great city. -Kango Traveler
