How come there are thousands of jobs on Monster and CareerBuilders yet so many people unemployed?

I have been looking for a job for over a year. My background is in Customer Serivce. There are literally thousands of jobs on the online sites...yet....I have been looking for a job for over a year. I have lowered my desired salary requirements and still... I am smart, slim and cute. Oh. And. Jobless.

  1. It's because these people are not qualified. A lot of employers are looking for people who have experience and education.
  2. They are good sources to post your resume. I use them and I got a job through an employment agency working as Preschool Teacher. You are right there are jobs out there, just keep applying. I would try West, and applying for jobs at call centers. I would go the actually company website and apply. Also, I would temporary and employment agency. You might get what you want, but at least you will have a job until you get the job you want. A lot of friends haven't gotten some jobs and position with companies from those sites. You just have to get trying and changing your resume around a little bit. Good Luck!
  3. I know, right. I'm right there with you sista. That is the same problem that I'm having right now. You know what I think the problem is employers are becoming way too picky. They want the PERFECT candidate and nothing less.I know the whole objective is to find a great match, but they miss out on potential great employees just because they don't meet every single requirement. I thought that's what training was for. The job market is FIERCE right now. Companies are laying off and cutting back all because of this bad economy. That in turn makes the competition that much greater. What you need to do is follow-up with these employers, make sure the job didn't become occupied, even though the job may still be posted. Sometimes ask to speak to the one that is doing the hiring. I did and that is how I have gotten my previous jobs. Dress up and physically drop off your resume. Hey you might get an on-the-spot interview. But whatever you do don't give up.
